Zechenter's Garden

(2022)

Maybe you've known it since childhood, or maybe it's your first time in it, Zechenter's Garden is an essential part of Kremnica. This light object points to the fact that the park contains up to 24 different trees and plants. The kinetic luminous object is thus a reminder of what Kremnica has in its heart.

Drawings of leaves, fruits, and trees were created by Tomáš Eniac Cíger.

The laser-created parts were cut at LAB.Cafe.

Be the Light

Thanks to its optical properties, the plexiglass conducts light well. I already worked with this simple principle on my earlier project Lekno. If you create a clean edge (with a laser machine) and place a light source next to it, the object's edges will spread the light. And so it is possible to illuminate the contours and create ambient light simply.

Failure

As it happens, not everything always goes as planned. I still have a lot to learn about component design and, above all, vector 2D graphics. This object was not only supposed to glow but also to move slowly. Unfortunately, I couldn't build it. Maybe next time. Many thanks to Rastislav Rehák for his endless patience in teaching me.

Experience is gained every day. During the entire production of the object, I deliberately left a protective foil on large areas of the circle, because Plexiglas is extremely prone to scratches and every fingerprint is visible on it. Arriving at the event, excitedly pulling off the protective foil for the first time, and finding out that your object is completely scratched and cloudy was like a stab to the heart. Unfortunately, this also sometimes happens if you trust the quality of the supplied materials too much.

But all these still didn’t stop me : )

Data visualization of trees in the park

These leaves, branches, and fruits were drawn by Arter Eniac to represent trees from the Zechenters garden. The drawings were converted into vectors and laser cut into clear plexiglass. Visitors could see such plexiglass sheets as small souvenirs from the event.
